La Crescenta, CA 91214 A hiker's haven, Deukmejian Wilderness Park is 709 acres nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. The dirt trails are rugged and the elevations range from approximately 2,159 feet at the entryway to 4,775 feet at the northeast corner of the park. Views of the Crescenta Valley and Los Angeles basin can be admired from almost any point on the park trails. The Deukmejian Wilderness Trail is also home to the historic Le Mesnager Barn, which was constructed between 1914 and 1918 by Louise Le Mesnager. It has been used as a stable, a storage facility for winemaking, and as a home for the Le Mesnager family before it was sold to a property developer in 1968. The City of Glendale purchased Le Mesnager Barn and the surrounding property in 1988 and named it Deukmejian Wilderness Park, after former California governor George Deukmejian. |

Now they need our love and water since it's been so hot. We suggest you bring one or two 1 gallon water bottles ( milk bottles work nicely) filled with water/ adult. 1/2 gallon bottles work great for kids. We'll hike a short distance to the trees, water, then hike to a canyon and stream to refill the bottles. Then return to water other trees and join the Glendale Parks group that is doing tree care in the park on that morning. Total hike about 2 miles rt, 500 ft gain. Meet us at 9 am at the trailhead near the parking lot in Deukmejian Wilderness Park. 3429 Markridge Rd, La Crescenta, CA 91214 Also bring hat, shoes with soles with good grip, sunscreen, snack, water for yourself. All minors need to be accompanied by a parent or adult with permission from parent. Community service credit is available. Outing is sponsored by the Junior Explorers of the Sierra Club.
