O: Spectacular Fish Canyon and Waterfalls

Come join on this gorgeous. 5 mile roundtrip, 900’ elevation gain hike to what John Robinson calls “The most spectacular falls in the San Gabriel range”.
Follow the lush green, tree-lined canyon walls situated alongside a running stream to a free-flowing waterfall. After decent rains, these falls really look majestic. And yes, there really are fish swimming in the canyon waters. Meet us at 9:45 am at the Vulcan parking lot at end of Encanto Pkw in Duarte. (From the I-210 Foothill Freeway, traveling east (or the I-605 traveling north): Exit Mt. Olive Avenue in Duarte. Turn right (east) on Huntington Drive and go 0.6 mile to Encanto Parkway. Turn left (north) on Encanto Parkway and drive to end). Bring hiking style boots with good threading, lunch or a snack, and some water. Tennis shoes may be too slippery. Hike best for youngsters older than 9 or those used to hiking on a narrow trail. All minors need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. There are couple of stream crossings. Possibility of playing near the river, so bring water shoes/ changes of clothes especially for the kids.

Website for description of hike and directions:
Rain cancels. Leaders: Bill Gaskill, Maew Suchin, (maybe Silvia Darie)
Hike is sponsored by the Crescenta Valley Group of the Sierra Club and Little Hikers. All SC rules apply. All participants need to sign a liability waiver.

Choosing a good kid shoe for hiking: look on the bottom of the shoe. It is good if it has thick ridges. Smooth bottom of shoe is very slippery. Tall ankle area is good for ankle protection.
