The San Gabriel Mountains is LA’s Backyard and has rivers and forests to explore – Less than an hour away from you too! Anyone who wants to learn about this breathtaking ecosystem is invited to come on a hike Sunday September 11th to see why the San Gabriels are so special and why it’s important that underserved communities receive greater access to this recreational resource. Come on out and into the recently designated San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to renew your body and spirit on this beautiful outing. Families with children are welcome to participate on this easy hike along the El Encanto Trail near Azusa that’s about a 3 mi rt with minimal elevation gain. We will drive to the trailhead after we first tour the visitor center. The hike will include discussions about the National Monument and it's history as well as intro to the plants, and geology of the region, led by Roberto Morales. There will also be a discussion about water resources in these mountains as well as conservation. Upon return to the park, you can join us for a little barbecue with hotdogs and vegetarian options too, compliments of the National Sierra Club. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and snacks. Location: George F Canyon is located at 27305 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rolling Hills Estates CA 90274 at the southwest corner of Palos Verdes Drive East and Palos Verdes Drive North. Meet in the parking lot at 9:50, in order to start the hike at 10:00 am. Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome. They must be on leash at all times as required by LACC Section 10.32.010. Please clean up dog waste and pack out all litter. Dog waste bags are available at the trail head and at Quarter-Mile Bridge.
